New Look, New Server, New Everything
I’m writing this update on a computer in my room while a system that’s running my webserver is in the livingroom hardwired to the internet. This is my new setup, and I have to say I should have done this sooner. I remember back in the day of my Diggnation watching days when I knew Kevin Rose started Digg on a webserver in his bedroom. Back then I always dreamt of being able to set up my own webserver, but never had the means to do so. And I had the computers, just until the past decade, I’d say, I had a very inconsistent internet connection. And honestly, I have been running a media server accessible from outside my network for about five years now, without issues. So, I decided since I now have fiber internet with a more consistent connection, I’d try my hands at the whole webserver thing. And well, here I am.
Speaking of reminiscing on the past, another dream I had as a kid that I now have. As previously mentioned, my media server. That’s my baby. I think I spent more money on that whole setup than anything else to date. And I don’t regret any of it. So, back in 1999, I flew out to Seattle to visit my uncle, and I was big on Cartoon Network then. Anything Cartoon Network, I was there. At one point, there was a sweepstakes for a Dexter’s Lab promo, I Googled to see if I could find anything about it, or who even won the contest, but to no avail, sadly. But the contest was to win a Dexter’s Lab-themed computer system loaded with every episode of Dexter’s Lab on the system. I vividly remember wanting so badly to win that contest, because back at that time, we had one computer for the whole family. And I wanted to have my own, plus to be able to watch Dexter’s Lab anytime I wanted. Now, granted my media server isn’t Dexter’s Lab themed, but I do still have every episode of Dexter’s Lab, including the banned from TV episodes, on said system.
Anywho, I guess before I start my usual ramblings and whatnot, updates. I’m not fully done with the whole server set-up yet. It’s a WIP still at this point, so don’t be surprised if connectivity is iffy. It may do this until I’m fully done configuring everything. So, if it doesn’t load one minute, try again in five. I do have a lot planned for this site, though. Reviews, stories, random posts. So stay tuned! This is a short update on the happenings of my website.
